I discouvered Doreme (a miniature schnauzer) has got a lump near her hip three weeks ago. I bought her to the vet in MK at once. He told me that Doreme's brother (raised by another owner) has got the same sympthom. He gave her some medicine and ask us to massage the affected area with hot towel. Actually, he didn't tell me what's that. I bought her to visit Dr. Eric Lai today. He told me that it's cancer and need to do the operation. Is there anyone got the same experience or can tell me what I should do. The lump of Doreme's brother has been disappeared without any operation. But, should I believe Dr. Eric Lai as he insisted to say operation is needed. My heart is broken as Doreme is one year old only. Please help

Do not believe in Dr. Eric Lai. He is telling every people that their dogs have cancer. My friend's dog had a very minor problem and he was not willing to eat. So my friend took him to see Dr. Eric Lai and then he told her that the dog has cancer, with only touching his leg! He said that his leg has a lump and then an operation is needed to take out some sample to see if it is bad cell or not. They needed to send the sample cell to the UK for testing. The operation costs her HK$4000 and then the result took more than 2 months and till now, no matter how many times my friend called him, he said the result is not back yet! So until now, we dont know if it was really cancer or not. The dog is happy and normal now. So if it is really cancer, I believe he has dead already. I think that this doctor is telling all the poeple that their dogs have cancer. I suggest you to see another vet. Dr. Ian is very good and I can give you his details.

Yes, Dr. Eric told me that my dog has cancer without any testing too. He only toughed the lump and said operation is needed. I woundered if he is so experienced to confirm me my dog has cancer without any testing lor... I made an appointment with Mr. Ho at Happy Valley next Thur. I think I should listen to the advices of one more vet. The opinion of this two vets are very extreme.

Don't believe in this Dr. Eric. I was told that he is a business man more than a vet. My friend told me while she was waiting at the clinic, she noticed that all other dogs are waiting for a blood tests. Seems that he advices all dogs to have blood tests even they have very minor problems So he is only making money. Try Dr. Ian at Wanchai, he is very good. Do get more opinion from different vets.

Yes, my friend's dog was bitten by another dog and she took him to Dr Eric Lai since it was the closest clinic. He said my friend's dog may have some other bone problems as well as suggests a test for him. Dr Lai pulled the dog's leg so the dog was crying. My friend then took the dog back and refused to do the test. She then go back to her vet (Dr Chui in Kln) and the vet said it was just a minor cut and nothing serious. I've heard too that Dr Eric Lai is just a businessman and has a lot of publicity thru radio shows etc.

Yuki, don't worry, I am sure your dog only has a very minor problem and she should be OK. Don't get scared by Dr. Erice because he is scaring every people in order to make money. I have heard so many negative news on this Dr. Eric Lai even he has a lot of publicity. Go to see another vet and I am sure your dog is fine.

Exactly the same, Dr. Lai pulled my dog's leg and make her cry... He said, you can see she is uncomfortable with the test... and I am sure she has some problem.. do the x-ray first and see what treatment is needed....

This is super crazy. He has done that to my friend's dog as well and till now, all tests were done (my friend believed in him) and costed her more than HK$4000 and still we are not sure if that was a cancer or not. He will tell you that the lab test in Hong Kong is no good and suggest you to send the test result to the UK etc. That would cost you more and of course he earn more. But in fact, my own vet (Dr. Ian) said the HK lab (which is run by the Government) is very good and the result is very accurate.

I did call Dr. Lai clinic and confirm he will send the report to UK for testing... and he said... normally we can get the report for two weeks... actually.. why he doesn't use the lab test in HK....

Actually,如果話係有cancer咁大件事,我一定會看多一個自己信任or狗友介紹的vet...
試想想,就算是人有cancer,醫生都會做測試證實才會對病人說是cancer...

So Ball, I agreed with you. Dr Lai just touched my friend's dog's leg and said he is 100% sure that he has cancer. However, he still has to do the surgery and send the report the lab in UK for testing because the lab in Hong Kong would not have accurate result.

My friend has been waiting for more than 2 months now and they still said that the result is not back yet. If the dog really has cancer, I don't think he can wait for two months doing nothing. I'd bet that maybe at the end he would tell my friend that the dog does not has cancer and congradulation ..etc. Therefore, he has earned good money!

Yup. I agree with u... Do your friend still believe in him?? Altough I don't believe the words of Mr. Lai, my friends are 100% believe in him... they told me that Mr. Lai is very good... he cured and saved their dogs... ai... I don't know ar.......
So Ball,
My puppy can eat, play and sleep as normal ar.. she is very happy.. but the lump is still at the hip lor....as it will be her one year old bday next mon. Doreme will have a birthday with her brother (they are borned in the same day.. hehe) tmr....

Yes, my friend believes in him so much but since the test takes so long, she started to think that Dr. Lai is no good. If your dog can eat and sleep like normal, I believe she is OK. Because my other friend had a dog (now passed away) and he had cancer and he did not eat at all. He was an middle age dog. Therefore, if your dog is so young, I do not believe he has cancer. As said, go to see another doctor to confirm.

puppy 有癌症的機會不大, 你找多一個專業意見會比較好,你要醫生幫你去抽組織化驗 ,再驗血看一看白血球指數多或少,你的vet 好奇怪呀!

At first, I brought Doreme to visit Dr. Ng in MK ga... he had done the blood test (just get the blood and see with the microscrope).. he told me it seems normal... but he can't tell me why she has a lump..and what's that...he asked me to use the hot towel to massage the lump and see if it will be smaller... after almost a month... my freinds ask me bring her to visit Dr.Lai,he told me my dog has cancer... so strange....... I will bring Doreme to visit one more vet to see if it's true.

U know, when I told the story with the pet shop which Doreme always goes to have grooming, they told me that two of their customers ,who visit Mr. Lai, said that their dogs had the bone problem and need to serve with collegen in long terms..... I really get angry with him... it's not the problem of $$$ but he should know we, as a owner, will get worried...depressed...etc...I DON"T THINK HE HAS CONSIDERED THE FEELING OF THE OWNERS................

I don't know if Dr. Ho Tai Shing is good or not. I have a friend who said that he is very very good, but I have another friend who said Dr. Ho is good but the other doctors at his clinic is not good. So it really depends if you trust him or not. For me, I would never consider Dr. Lai as the vet for my dog becuase he always tells people that their dogs have problem. The friend I mentiond to you before really trusts him, but this doctor told her that her dog had thyroid problems, bone problems, heart problems and now cancer! Her puppy is only one year old! She visited another vet but the vet said that her thyroid and heart and bone are oK! So I will never trust this Dr. Lai! You are correct, money is not an issue but for us, as parents of the doggies, really worry!
I highly recommend you to see Dr. Ian. He has been in Hong Kong for so many years and is a very experienced vet. Many famous peoplel's doggies see him as well so you can try.

It is not hard to book for Dr. Ian. But for Saturday and Sunday, you must book early, but usually you don't have to wait for one week. He is very very good trust me. All my doggie friends are seeing him and he is very good. I know that Dr. Ho is hard to book because he is famous plus he speaks Cantonese so that is the reason. Dr. Ian's clinic is located at Wanchai. Just give them a ring today to see if he is avaibale this weekend. Don't worry, I am sure your doggie is fine and don't let Dr. Eric upset you! My friend was upset by him three months ago and till now, she is still not happy because the test result is not back yet!

i agreed on what you said, don't believe on Dr. Eric Lai, he only wants to make money and not a kind heart vet, he don't have enough experience and both my / my friend's dog were killed by him, when my friend's dog passed away, my friend went back to his clinic to pick up the body, he's so scare that he don't want to come back and face to face talk with my friend, at that time, he got a young man working there as the receptionist, he told my friend that Dr. Lai shouldn't used this kind of method to treat her dog -- Dr. Lai thought that her dog was getting this kind of desease but actully not, and due to the old age of the dog (almost 14 years old), the medicine that he gave to the dog was too strong that the dog can't stand and die, same case to my little puppy, i am living at Happy Valley, and every time i passed by yick yum street, i will go to the other side and tried not to pass his clinic, i hate him so much

I feel very sorry for you because your dog was killed by this vet. I feel sorry for your friend's dog becuase the dog was old already and still had to suffer from the strong medicine. Therefore, Yuki, your dog might not get cancer so don't get upset and depress.

Thank you ar... Although I am really about Doreme, I also brought her to Dog Cafe to have a birthday party with her brother and her classmate in training school.. (as I mentioned before, she can play, eat and sleep well... haha)The owner in dog cafe told me that her dog had the same problem b4 but its lump was not so hard.. but it has recovered lar..it's not cancer ar... I hope Doreme is the same case la..

mm...Dr Eric has one clinic in Happy Valley and another clinic and Tseung Kwang O ar.. he stays in Happy Valley always... but he will be in Tseung Kwang O in Tuesday (whole day) and Thursday night la...

I totally agreed with u that the medicine which given by Dr. Lai is too strong. I don't know if my dog is allergic to his medicine or he gives the wrong medicine to her... u know.. the "panadol" which he claimed it can relieve the pain of her bone problem.. (I don't know if she is really painful.. since she has no problem in walking and jumping.. she just doesn't like people to touch her "pat pat".) made my daughter felt difficult to breath in the midnight.. she breathed very hard and her noice awoke me... I am so nervous and frightened... the other day, my bf gave her the medicine again.. she vomit..I called Dr. Eric then, he said the medicine has the side effect of making some doggies vomit.. but they should not get difficult to breath.. really bullshit... he told me he can't sure why it happens.... and ask me not to give her the medicine... Is it kidding????? he never told me the medicine had side effect... he can't explain why my dog feel difficult to breath... so..I won't believe in him anymore..

I feel very sorry for your daughter suffering after taking the medicine given by Dr. Lai. He is really bull shit and terrible. He really should have told you that the possible side effect of the medicine etc. Even when human go to see the doctor, the doctor will tell us what kind of medicine it is and what is the side effect etc. For doggies, well, they can't talk, so the vet should really explain more to the owner! Your puppy is so young and taking too strong medicine is not good to her. If she does not have problem to walk and run and even jump, and no x ray was done, how can he tell that the bone has problem! Crazy. Don't worry, I am sure that the lump is not serious. Me and my Snoo (4 years Shih Tzu) strongly support you!

Thanks ar... my friends told me that there are two famous Vets who can speak cantonese.. one is Dr. Ho and the other is Dr. Mak. I did try to make an appointment with Dr. Mak as well... but when I phoned his clinic, the nurse is very rude and impolite... so.. I give up to make appointment with him at this moment... he is really hard to book......

Guess what, I had dinner with my friend in which Dr. Lai said that her dog has cancer and a surgery was done and the test was sent to the UK for two months and still no result .......today she told me that the result is back and the result is normal. which means that the dog does not have cancer! However, he still cannot explain why there was a lump.......This puppy is only 1 year old and was on strong medicine and worse case, he was under a surgery and took the cell out and the result that he is normal! Of course we all want this result and are happy for him. HOwever, my friend has been crying and crying and he has scared my friend........
Therefore, I am sure your dog does not have cancer at all!
